It was an action packed weekend of football for the St. James’ club last weekend. On Friday the Jimmies recorded a good win against Moycullen in the County U-13 A League. Weather conditions weren’t ideal for football as it was raining heavily. Nevertheless, the weather conditions did not dampen the James’ lads spirits and they ran out convincing winners on a scoreline 6-7 to 3-5. Jimmies. James’ played extremely well and their kick passing was exceptionally good. James’ never looked in danger throughout the game and were quick to punish any mistakes made by Moycullen. Cian Griffin Curren, Conor Fahy, Tommy and Jamie Hayes put in solid performances in the forward line. In addition, Jack Folan and Darragh Neary lorded midfield and were able to give the forwards the supply they needed in order to score. In defensive the Jimmies were very dogged and prevented lots of scores from going over the bar or in the back of the net. Goalkeeper Ciaran Kinsella kept close tabs on the James’ defense. Daire Crowe, Eanna Fitzpatrick, Lee Devaney and Timothy Shogbien, Emanual all put good performances. Meanwhile, the St. James’ Girls U-14 team and management recorded a good win against Clonbur on Friday evening also. The score line resulted St. James’ 8-4 Clonbur 3-10. Well done to both teams and managements for a great sporting game. St. James’ Juvenile club hosted a successful Academy blitz day in Mervue last Saturday. The Jimmies played Go-Games U-8 & 10 and competed very well in all of their games. Many thanks to all who supported Galways future stars. In addition well done to all the players, mentors, parents and volunteers who helped out on the morning. The James’ ladies had a comprehensive win against Milltown on sunday morning in the third round of the Galway Senior B league. James’ defeated Milltown away from home and were impressive to watch. The final score resulted St. James’ 9-15 Milltown 2-3. James had many scorers on the morning and among these were Bernie O’Connor 3-5, Sarah Farragher 3-1, Martina Conroy 0-3, Elizabeth Gavaghan 3-2, Michelle Lohan 0-1, Roisin Gibbons 0-1, Aishling Donnelly 0-1, Niamh Gilligan 0-1. Next up for the James’ ladies are Dunmore McHales next friday in Mervue @7pm. Well done to all the players and management on their victory. In addition, thanks are extended to the supporters who traveled to Milltown for the game. The James’ senior men’s squad had an impressive win against Caltra last sunday in the opening round of the Galway Senior Championship. James’ defeated Caltra in Kenny Park Athenry and comprehensively outscored their opponents. The final score resulted St. James’ 1-17 Caltra 0-6. James’ scorers were Eoin Concannon 1-5, Paul Conroy 0-4, Johnny Duane 0-1, Neil Lydon 0-1, Alan Murphy 0-1, Tommy Walsh 0-1, Oisin O’Malley 0-1, David O’Connell 0-1, Mike Fahy 0-1, Owen Teagle 0-1.
