Congratulations to our senior team who defeated Cortoon Shamrocks in the second round of the senior championship. The Jimmies ran out winners 1-11 to 0-11 in Athenry last Saturday evening. Well done to all involved an a speedy recovery to Johnny Duane who picked an injury during the game which led to his departure. The Jimmies will face Carraroe in the next round of the senior championship which is scheduled for 2 weeks time. The date, time and venue will be confirmed in the week. A massive congratulations to our U12A Girls team on winning the Division 2 League Final on Saturday. This sets them up to play Division 1 Championship football this autumn. In her speech Captain Isabelle Ryan thanked Bearna Na Forbacha LGFA for the game, the referee, their coaches Colin and Aoife and Rahoon Newcastle GAA for hosting the final and of course thanks to all the families who supported the team all season. The annual football festival in memory of club stalwart Darragh Frain took place in sunny Mervue on Saturday morning. There was 10 teams participating on the day and among theses clubs were, St. James’, Milltown, Barna, Padraig Pearses, Tulsk and Elphin/Ballinameen. The football on display was a joy to watch and all teams competed very well. St. James’ captured the Plate and Shield titles, while Elphin/Ballinameen defeated Milltown in the cup final. The club would like to take this opportunity to thank all the clubs for taking part. In addition, thanks are extended to the organizers, committee members and the coaching staff for all there efforts on and off the field. The club would like to thanks all of our sponsors, Aidan Brady of Club Rossie, Mike and Ollie Crowe, The Trophy Centre Galway and The Frain Family. We look forward to 2019 and celebrating and hosting another football festival in memory of the great Darragh Frain.
