A great friend of St. James’ GAA, Frank Rice of St Michaels GAA Club, sadly passed away yesterday. The club would like to offer our most sincere condolences to the Rice family and St. Michael’s club. Frank refereed a lot of games for the Jimmies over the past number of years and was an excellent referee. He loved coming into the clubhouse whenever we hosted blitzes and games for a cup of tea, sandwich and a good chat. Frank was a true friend of ours and always had a smile on his face. He refereed his last game on May 5th 2019 between St. James’ & Michael Breathnachs in the county U-12 league played at Mervue. We have many fond memories of Frank and are honored that we knew him and acknowledge everything he done for the St. James’ club and the GAA. May he Rest In Peace.

The St. James’ School of Excellence was a major success. This involved a three day Academy at Renmore and Pearse Stadium. Sinead Bradbury Nutrition & Health Consultant spoke to the players about nutrition and healthy eating. GAA official referee, Ronan McNulty was also on site and spoke to everyone about the rules of Gaelic games from a referee perspective. Club & county minor players Daniel McNulty, Eoin Finnerty, James Egan and Ciaran Kinsella showcased the skills of the game and this concluded day 1 of the Academy. On day two the Jimmies traveled to the Home of Galway Football, Pearse Stadium. County and club players Johnny Duane, Paul Conroy and the Beast that is Damo Comer were in attendance and focused on all aspects of the game from defending to attacking. Lots of prizes were given to all Jimmies, including a county jersey. The final day concluded with Eanna Shalvey from the All Core Fitness Gym. Eanna spoke to all the players about the importance of S&C and demonstrated a number of exercises that one can do in order to stronger and more agile. He also gave the boys and girls some tips in relation warming up and stretching the correct way. In addition, senior player Ryan O’Toole was also on site and spoke to everyone about the importance of commitment and goal setting. Many learning outcomes achieved during the course of the week. The Academy was a big hit & success and the club would like to thank everyone that attended and also to our coaching staff for providing an excellent service.

Last Saturday morning the club welcomed Moycullen GAA U8 teams to Mervue. There was plenty of football talent on display and well done to both clubs for showcasing an exhibition of Gaelic games. Coffee + Mervue were on site selling freshly brewed coffee and treats for all. A super morning at HQ to say the least despite the bad weather. This Saturday, we host Annaghdown and Padraig Pearses of Roscommon in mervue at 11:30am. Congratulations are extended to Joey O’Hara, Ciaran Kinsella, Jamie Hayes, Jack Nolan & Keane Griffin. All five James’ U-15 player were part of the Galway team that won the All-Ireland Adam Mangan Title on Saturday. Special mention to their county mentors of Colm Tummon, Edwin Murray & Alan Campbell. A serious achievement for the team and management. Another special mention to club minor players Daniel McNulty and Jame Egan Egan who were part of the Galway minor team that defeated Kerry in Croke Park in the Electric Ireland All-Ireland semi-final. The club are extremely proud of their achievements and are looking forward to seeing them in Croke Park on September 1st in the All-Ireland final

The full time score at Pearse Stadium between St. James’ and Claregalway in the senior championship last sunday resulted 1-14 to 1-13 A disallowed goal at the end for Jimmies meant that Claregalway came away with the win. Nevertheless, the Jimmies can still qualify if they defeat Annaghdown and Tuam Stars in their remaining games. The Jimmies will face Tuam Starts next Saturday 24th August at Corofin GAA grounds. Throw-in is at 4:30pm and the club are calling all supporters to travel to Corofin to cheer on the team and management in what is a must win game.
