The St. James’ Ladies opened their league campaign with a defeated yesterday away to Clonbur. The game opened with a tally of scores at both ends. Clonburs Mairead Joyce played a pivotal role in her teams victory. Joyce created and added some excellent scores. In addition, the Jimmies also had good moves that resulted in some excellent finishing. Among these players were Elizabeth Gavaghan, Ailbhe O’ Regan, Roisin Gibbons and Bernie O’ Connor. The Jimmies trailed the game in the opening half and were behind by three points at the interval. The game was in the balance in the second half and both teams created some good chances but their was a lot of intercepted passes and also tenacious defending. In defense Kerieanne Magee, Michelle Hourgian, Eliza Gellan, Sarah Farrager, Aishling Donnelly, Ciara Haren and Aideen Traynor could not be faulted for their efforts. However, James’ missed a lot of opportunities in front of goals and as a result Clonbur punished their mistakes. The final score resulted St. James’ 1-10 Clonbur 3-11. It must be noted that the James’ team were missing six starters from their 2016 championship team. Their next outing in the LGFA Senior B league is scheduled for next Friday in Mervue @7pm vs Milltown.
