St. James’ took on Salthill-Knocknacarra yesterday evening in Mervue. This game was the opening round of the U-14 A County Championship and it was an epic clash. The sea siders took the lead in the early stages of the game but the Jimmies clawed their way back into the game and led at the break by two points. The second half was an excellent game as both sides put on an exhibition of football. The kick passing and tenacious defending was exceptional to say the least. The teams were tied throughout the second half and it was the home side who took the lead in the final minutes of the game. Their lead was short lived with skgaa got the equalizer in the last minute. Referee Kieran Quinn brought the game to an end shortly afterwards and there is little doubt that a draw was a fair result. An interesting factor to take into account is that when these two sides meet again one can expect that it will be a cracking game. Well done to both teams and managements for an excellent display of Gaelic games.
