End to End Tie in Ladies Senior B League
Club News

St. James’ ladies and Moycullen locked horns last weekend the L.G.F.A. Galway Ladies Senior B League. The Jimmies made the journey west of Galway to Moycullen on Sunday morning to take on the girls in green and white. Played in sweltering weather conditions, St. James’ opened the game on top and added a tally of scores. The versatile Michelle Lohan rattled the back of the net for the jimmies to help her side take the lead early on. Further scores came from Ailbhe O’Regan, Rosin Gibbions and Martina Conroy. Moycullen were on the back foot and had to dig deep in order to avoid a one sided affair. Galway senior player Ailbhe Daveron of Moycullen got her side’s fist score in the opening 15 minutes. Moycullen could only register three points in the first half and this was no reflection on how they were performing. James’ were tenacious and dogged in defensive and blocked down several attempts on goal. With halftime approaching the Jimmies were well on top of the game. The score at halftime was 1-6 to 0-3 in favor of the city side. James’ opened the second half with two consecutive points coming from Bernie O’Connor and Ailbhe O’Regan. Nevertheless, Moycllen did not give up and clawed their way back into the game. A well executed goal from Daveron narrowed the deficit to 6 points. The remaining 15 minutes of the game was end to end with both sides exchanging some fantastic scores. Katie Cater of Moycullen was lively in attack and quick to punish any mistakes made in the James’ defensive. Niamh Gilligan of St. James’ added a great score at a crucial stage of the game. Moycullen had narrowed the deficit to three points in the dying minutes of the game. Perhaps if they had taken their points the game could have possibly ended differently. Nevertheless, it was James’ who emerged winners on this occasion. James’ had many performers on the morning and among these was the goal keeper Kerrieanne Magee. In defensive there was Sorcha Connolly, Kellieanne Folan, Ex Galway camogie star Paula Kenny and Aideen Traynor. The Midfield Partnership of County Player Aisling Donnelly and Sarah Farragher was a strong combination. In the forward James’ had their captain Roisin Gibbons, Bernie O’Connor, Ailbhe O’Regan, Michelle Lohan and Martina Conroy. In contrast Moycullen had some good performers and among these players were Ailbhe Daveron, Katie Karter, Emma Karter, Róisín Ní Chonghaile and their captain Emily Molloy. The final score resulted St. James’ 1-11 Moycullen 1-8. James’ had many scorers on the morning and among these players were Michelle Lohan 1-1, Ailbhe O’Regan 0-2, Martina Conroy 0-3, Bernie O’Connor 0-2, Roisin Gibbions 0-2 and Niamh Gilligan 0-1. It is important to note that both clubs are only established in the last 6 years and have gone from strength to strength climbing from the depths of Junior D to Intermediate championship and senior league. It will be an interesting affair when both teams meet again this summer in the opening round of the championship.
