James’ Overcome Corofin in Division 1 opening round

Terry O’Regan St. James’ senior team defeated Corofin tonight in the opening round of the Division 1 league. Prior to this both teams locked horns eight days ago in the John Dunne Cup. The Jimmies prevailed in that tie and it was an exciting encounter with both teams exchanging excellent scores. This evenings game was repeat of the initial tie with both teams moving the ball quick and scoring well under pressure. Eoin Concannon opened the game with a quick goal and James’ added a tally of scores to take the lead. Nevertheless, Corofin responded well with some good moves and created chances resulting in scores. The Jimmies led at the interval 1-7 to 0-5. The second began with Corofin scoring and Michael Farragher was among these players who raised the umpires white flag. Furthermore, Aaron Connolly of St. James’ piped up and scored the Jimmies second goal which gave them a big advantage leading into the last ten minutes of the game. Corofin never gave up and clawed their way back into the game. However, the Jimmies did not submit under pressure and secured the win. James’ had many good performers on the evening and among these players were Eoin Concannon, Paul Conroy, Johnny Duane, Alan Murphy, Aaron Connolly, Owen Teagle, Dan lehnain, Alan Deacy, Tommy Walsh and David O’Connell. In addition it is important to note that tonight’s defeat for Corofin was there first time losing in 3 years. The final score resulted St. James’ 2-12 Corofin 0-14.
