The Jimmies tied with Killannin in the fourth round of the Galway U-16 A Championship. This game was played in Mervue on Tuesday evening and was an exciting game of football. There was a strong wind on the evening and both teams used this to their advantage. In the first half the Jimmies opened the game on top and took some good scores. This put them in a good position at the interval. Some good scores came from Sean Neary, Dessie Hynes, Daniel McNulty, Eoin Finnerty and Liam O’Reilly. Tony Loye made some excellent runs in the forward line and moved the ball well. In addition, Henry Papinlucey and Stephen Flaherty Kelly battled hard in midfield. The second half was a tough affair as Killannin started the comeback. The boy’s from out west were behind by 8 points and needed to narrow the deficit quickly. Killannin managed to register some good scores and narrowed the scoreline to four points halfway through the second half. Eoin Finnerty piped up for the Jimmies a hit the back of the net to extend the Jimmies lead. Furthermore, Killannin did not throw in the towel and came back to draw the game in the last minute. It must be noted that Daniel Kennedy, Jack Greaney, Cian Gillespie, Daniel Hugman, Dean Fitzpatrick, Ian Casserly and Rykelmy Rodrigues were very good in defensive. Rodrigues pulled off a super save at a crucial stage in the game. The game ended in a draw and it must be noted that this was a fair result. Both teams put on a good exhibition of football considering weather conditions. The club would like to congratulate all players on mentors for a clean sporting game and also thank the referee Kieran Quinn for his duty. A speedy recovery is extended to St. James’ U-16 player Ian Casserly. Ian picked up a nasty injury to his shoulder and the club wish him well in his recovery. The final score on the evening resulted St. James’ 3-5 Killannin 2-8.
