Superior Team Work Carry’s the Day for James’ Minors

The St. James’ minors defeated Carraroe tonight in the second round of the Minor B championship in Mervue. Weather conditions was ideal for football and this game was well contested by both teams. It was James’ who opened the game on top and added a tally of scores. Cian Gilroy pointed the way for the Jimmies and further scores were added by Bryan McSweeney. In addition, Carraroe were aided by a strong breeze in the opening period and took their scores well. The score at half-time was 1-4 a piece and all to play for in the second half. James’ were reduced to 14 men in the second half with 25 minutes remaining on the clock. Carraroe then took the lead and looked like they were going to win the game. Midfielder Josh Pyne scored an exceptional point to draw the sides level once again. In the remaining 5 minutes the teams were tied and it was Stephen Flaherty Kelly who netted the winning goal for his side.This goal sealed the win for the Jimmies and their superior team work carried the day. In goals was Cian Hynes who played a great game and alongside him in defense was captain Dion Walsh, Rory Melody and Daniel Corbett who all played exceptional. In the half back line was Paul O’Rourke, Kevin Hourgian and Stephen Flaherty Kelly and they were very tenacious and dogged in defense. Ryan O’Toole fielded some excellent kick-outs and delivered a lot of good plays to the forward line. Josh Pyne also contributed in midfield and like O’Toole he emptied the tank. In the forwards were Byran Hale, Cian Gilroy, Bryan McSweeney, Ruairi Breathnach, Dylan Carroll (impact substitute), Luke Mulvaney and Liam O’Donovan. All of the forwards put in a great effort and played very well for their team. Cian Gilroy must be noted for the tally of scores that he contributed in the game. The management team and squad can be happy with the performance and victory. The final score resulted St. James’ 2-8 Carraroe 1-8. Well done to all involved on this victory.
